What We Do What We Do

Welcome to Dogged Determination, where your pet photograph is turned into pet art.

There are three steps to the work that we do

  • Image preparation
  • Image processing
  • Printing and mounting
 Dogged Determination - we turn your pet picture into pet art. This is where we start with your pet photo. This photo is old and needs to have the colour balanced and colour enhanced and the background cleaned up
Image preparation consists of scanning in the image of your pet from the photograph you send. We set the scan parameters to retrieve the best quality of image possible from your print, depending upon the quality and type of photographic paper that has been used. In our example, the print was fairly old and very yellowed. We also accept high quality scans, or high quality digital images, in which case this step is skipped.
Image processing consists of three parts, firstly we remove any extraneous background, and adjust the colours if necessary to achieve a good balance. In our example - we removed the car from the background and boosted the colour to compensate for the faded colours of the original print. We will then set the background. This will either be based upon the colours in the original print, or if you want a different colour background, those colours. Finally, we use the algorithms within our imaging software to simulate the effect of a watercolour painting. Dogged Determination - we turn your pet picture into pet art. This is our finished product. We have enhanced the colour in the photograph, removed the background and substituted a brown wash background to suit the colouring of the dog. Printing consists of a test print on plain paper to ensure that the size of print that you have ordered can be adequately obtained from the original and final printing on our high quality 90 lb parchment. Its only fair to tell you that we are good at what we do, but there are limits to the miracles we can achieve, and if you send us a 2" x 2" wallet size print, then the final image will not be as good as with a 5" x 7" print. You can see this quite clearly comparing the picture of Nikki, which was taken from a high quality image, vs Caesar which was taken from a low quality scanned photograph.
